BARRY Town Ladies ensured their trip to Caerphilly last weekend was a memorable one, as they brushed aside the hosts 7-0 in a rampant display to reach the South Wales FA Cup final.

Molly Chapman hit a hat-trick in the rearranged tie, as Barry Town Ladies reached their first ever cup final with apparent ease on Sunday afternoon.

Barry started on the front foot, with full-debutant Emma Cannon testing the Caerphilly goalkeeper minutes in only to be denied by a smart save.

The home 'keeper did similarly well to prevent Chapman from opening the scoring, before she eventually made the breakthrough 20 minutes in.

With Stevie Cook, Becca Jones and Kate Spargo dominating in the midfield area, Chapman was sent racing clear and produced a sublime deft chip over the keeper into the corner of the net to make it 1-0.

Cannon saw another effort come back off the woodwork, as the visitors pushed to add to their advantage.

Beth O’Donnell and Naomi Coulson were a constant threat on both flanks and it was no surprise when Barry doubled their lead. A long range effort was spilled by the keeper, with Chapman on hand to bundle home the rebound.

To their credit, Caerphilly refused to buckle and started to get into the game after that second goal, creating some half chances and earning a penalty for a handball on 35 minutes.

However, the resultant spot kick was brilliantly saved by Barry goalkeeper Megan Davies, who reacted superbly to make another good stop from the rebound to keep the 2-0 lead intact.

Barry responded in sublime fashion, finding a third goal on the stroke of half time when captain and dead ball specialist, Stevie Cook stepped up to strike home a superb free-kick from 35 yards.

The opening 15 minutes of the second period were a tight affair, but Barry looked more assertive as the game wore on and they grabbed their fourth shortly after.

Seventeen-year-old Cannon deservedly claimed her first senior goal with a powerful finish that left the home 'keeper with no chance, capping off a fine debut start for the youngster.

Another fine through ball then found Chapman, who completed her hat trick with a calm finish over the outrushing goalkeeper to make it five, before substitute Hannah Moger added two more late goals for the visitors before the final whistle blew.

Manager Adam Hewings said after the game: "The players deserved that today. They are the first group of ladies to get Barry Town Utd to a senior cup final and they are a real credit to our club. They had to dig deep at times today, and they never shied away.

"It’s a great achievement for us as a team. We’ve got a real nice balance of players here and we’re all learning together.

"Barry’s success means they will take on Penybont in the final, with the date and venue yet to be confirmed.

Next week, the ladies have a League Cup quarter final at Jenner Park against Willow Ladies. Kick-off is at 4pm.
