CADOXTON Bowls Club held the finals of their club competitions over two days. Fortunately the weather stayed fine for both days.

There were a number of players who won the way to more than one final. Paul Swannick qualified for four finals; Don Kuhnell, Will Craven, Ivor Robertson, and Jim Stacey, made it into two finals each.

Three games were completed on Saturday.

The Two Bowl competition opened the proceedings with a fairly tight encounter with Don Kuhnell winning 10 of the 17 ends played against Jim Stacey, for a narrow success.

The Club Championship and the Jack Hartman Trophy (for over-60’s) followed. The latter had Roy Harding a previous three times winner up against Ivor Robertson. Roy made sure of continuing his success with an easy win, by allowing Ivor, playing well below his normal form, just one winning end.

The Championship was a much more testing challenge for both players. The spectators were entertained with excellent bowling from both players.

Will Craven took the early ascendancy with an 8 - 4 advantage after eight ends. The upper hand was claimed by Paul Swannick on the 13th end at 9 – 10.

The scores were then levelled after 17 ends at 12 each. This was followed by a two and three from Paul to open up a gap. After 24 ends Paul made his score 20, with just one needed to win, with Will still five shots behind, and facing defeat. Nevertheless Will refused to capitulate.

He scored a single on the next, a double after that and completed a fantastic comeback with a three to become Club Champion in his first year of membership.

On the Sunday four further games were scheduled, but due to unforeseen circumstances Jim Stacey could not take part, and conceded the final of the Novices Trophy to Ewan Heppenstall.

The first game was for the Handicap Trophy with Paul Swannick playing his second final against Derek Jeffries, who had a one shot handicap advantage. After seven ends were completed the advantage had increased to four shots.

However a two on the 13th end gave Paul the lead for the first time, of one, and the impetus to continue to the target of 21 without conceding another shot.

The Triples Competition was played with Don Kuhnell skipping a rink assisted by David Fanning and John Papoutsou, against Derek Brook, David Evans and Arthur Field. Johnnie Pap was in the lead position and produced a superb performance which gave the advantage to Don’s rink continuously throughout the game, which was completed in their favour with consummate ease. This was a milestone for Don whose name will now appears on all of the Honours Boards in the club.

The Pairs Competition was participated between Will and Howard Craven, and Ivor Robertson and Paul Swannick. The Craven’s took immediate control of this match and were successful without reply during the opening seven ends, with an advantage of 15 - 0.

However the supremacy during the remaining ends evened out with both sides adding eight shots each, before the game was conceded with only two ends remaining.

Paul Swannick also reached the final of a new sets competition in which he will meet Rob Byrne, during the coming week.
