BARRY Athletic FC Under-15s rounded off last season with their recent presentation evening, swiftly followed the next day by a tournament.

The guest of honour at the presentation was Charlotte Williams, the mayor of Barry, who kindly agreed to present the players with their awards.

The management team thanked the parents for their support over the season and also thanked current sponsors, RIM Motors for their help. The players were also congratulated for their efforts over the last 11 months.

Main awards of the presentation went to Sam Montgomery - Coaches Recognition, Harri Edwards - Top Goalscorer, Supporters Player of the Year - Dan Barnett, Most Improved Player of the Year - Cian Williams-McCarthy, Players Player of the Year and Managers Player of the Year - Rhys Woolmer.

The presentation closed with the mayor offering some very kind words to the coaches for their efforts in continuing to provide a sound environment for some of the youth of Barry in which to progress at football.

A great night was rounded off with the players and parents sharing the occasion of Wales beating Belgium at the Euro Championship.

The following day, the Athletic competed in the Bridgend Town FC tournament. The group stage saw the Athletic pitted against Lisvane Panthers, Crusaders FC and old friends Pencoed BC.

The Barry side won all three games with goals coming from Bright, Woolmer, Montgomery and a hat-trick from Mellars.

Rivals Cowbridge Town were next up in the semi-final. The game was a very physical affair with neither side managing to break the deadlock.

The game proceeded to a penalty shoot out with 'keeper Mayor being the star, saving two and scoring the all important winner. The final followed with the Barry side competing against Monmouth Town.

As most finals go, this was a tense affair but as soon as the Athletic got their rhythm going with their passing game they soon found themselves 1 - 0 up with a well taken goal by Mellars.

Monmouth managed to get themselves back into the game just before half-time with a fortunate run of the ball.

The second-half saw the Athletic have the better of the exchanges but found an inspired 'keeper in goals for the opposition. With the game edging towards another shoot-out, Corrigan launched a Gunnarsson-esque throw-in towards the Monmouth goal which was met by the head of Barnett who managed to flick the ball on and over the reach of the 'keeper.

Well done to all the players who took part, it was a real team effort.
