THE Vale Schools Under-11 team ended a fantastic season of rugby with a win in the DC Thomas plate final.
They defeated Pontypool schools eight tries to one with the scores coming from some determined ball winning by the forwards and skilful handling and finishing from the very elusive backs.
The squad, expertly coached by Penarth residents Duncan Mottram and Ty Golding, was a mix from all Vale schools and four of the winning team play at Penarth RFC.
They are Osian Coates (captain), Pen-y-Garth, Evan Jones and Ethan Barry, both at Evenlode and George Jones, Victoria.
The win capped a very successful season for the boys which included away wins against the Counties of North East Wales at Wrexham in the quarter and Swansea schools in the semi final.
The squad also had a very enjoyable 'dads and lads' tour to Carmarthen and Aberystwyth in March and all are looking forward to their end of season BBQ at their home ground at Old Pens RFC in July.
