CADOXTON Barry Football Club’s Annual Presentation Night took place last Saturday.

The awards for the Year 7s went as follows: Managers' Choice was shared between Tom Spicket and Taylor Smith. The Most Improved award went to Astyn Robertson and the Player's Player went to Cyan Baron.

For the Minis the awards went as follows: Top Scorer—Green Team-Jack, Blue Team-Max. Most Improved—Green Team-Saskia, BlueTeam-Ewan. Manager's Player—Green Team-Brooke, Blue Team -Kaiyd. Player's Player—Green Team-Ryan, Blue Team-Max.

After the presentations every youngster received a goody bag with a free raffle ticket attached. And there were lots of footy prizes to be won with them.

Many of the mums, dads and youngsters then stayed on for the senior event which started with the Second team presentations announced by manager Mr Steve Doyle.

And the joint choice, made along with assistant Mr Tommy Taylor, for the manager's player award went to Gareth Fiddler while the players player award went to Matthew Angove.

Steve spoke in positive tones about both players, Matthew for his reliability and Gareth who, although living away from Barry, is always able to get to games to become a calming influence on the younger players. He also thanked several 1st team regulars for helping out at the end of the season when a number of regular 2nds were unavailable.

For the Thirds, manager Steve Sewell echoed those thanks to the 1sts who had helped his 3rd string side as the season wound down. After a slow start, a winning run had seen them finish comfortably in the top half of the Vale League's Division Two.

Unfortunately Shaun Smart was unable to be present to receive the Manager's choice award, but Dean Cameron, winner of the Player's Player award, did make it in time to be photographed with trophy sponsor, Mr Chris Brown and club President, Cllr Dr Ian Johnson.

And so to the First team awards. Firstly, team manager and winner of the South Wales Senior League's last ever Manager of the Month award, Adam Harvey, spoke tongue-in-cheek praises for all the players, including 2nds who had stepped up from time to time, to help bring the last ever South Wales Senior League Division Two Championship to Barry. And the side-on humor continued when assistant Chris Barnet took control of the microphone. He also thanked all the backroom support including the committee and particularly coach Matthew Warner.

The presentations were made by trophy sponsor Mr Chris Brown and club president, Cllr Dr Ian Johnson.

And first up was the manager's Player of the Year award which went to James Dawson who famously resisted the temptation to go fishing on Saturdays. But on a more serious note, one of the influences in the choice was his willingness to play for others, reading the game, seeing the passing options and, most importantly, making them accurately more often than not.

The coveted First team Player's Player award went to a guy who is always working away in the planning department, always ready to spot the half chance whether it be for himself or to lay on for others, a regular at training and almost an ever present at matches. It was Dean Adams.

Chris Barnet then spoke about the season as a whole and particularly mentioned the battling fight back following that infamous 8 - 1 defeat at Garw early in the season. Very few title winning sides do it despite having such a defeat on their CV. But the fact that CB then went on to beat Cogan, with all their big names, on their own patch simply demonstrated CB's never-say-die approach.

Finally, it was time for the Billy Hailles Memorial Trophy to be presented to the Clubman of the Year. And this year it went to a retired Second team goalie who has been quietly working through his coaching qualifications while simultaneously coaching the 1sts to that famous title. And it went to Matthew Warner.

Finally, all the guys came to the stage to pose for the cameras with the South Wales Senior League Division Two Championship Shield before the social evening continued well into the night.
