Barry suffered their biggest league defeat in sixteen years on Saturday, as second-placed Connah’s Quay moved within six points of league leaders, The New Saints.

Despite the heavy loss, Barry remain in ninth spot in the Cymru Premier, with all of the sides below them also losing their weekend games.

Barry had the first chance of the match after six minutes, with Kayne McLaggon getting behind the defence, only for Connah’s Quay ‘keeper Andy Firth to save his effort.

The opening goal for Nomads came in the 14th minute when Jordan Davies reached the byline, and his low cross was turned in at the near post by Barry’s Callum Sainty.

The home side made it 2-0 after 21 minutes when Declan Poole’s cross from the right was flicked on by Jack Kenny, going in at the far post.

Looking to get back into the game, McLaggon’s shot from the edge of the box took a wicked deflection to wrongfoot the ‘keeper, but he was able to get down in time to save.

It was 3-0 soon after the break when Jack Kenny’s low shot somehow found itself past Luc Rees in the Barry goal and in the back of the net, and 4-0 when Harry Franklin reacted quicker than the Barry defence to stab the ball home from close range.

From the edge of the box, Ryan Harrington lashed his shot past Luc Rees to make it 5-0.

Barry then conceded two goals in the final ten minutes. Declan Poole waltzed through the Barry defence before his cross was headed home by Jordan Davies at the front post, and then substitute Michael Wilde scored his hundredth goal for Nomads to make it 7-0.

Steve Jenkins and his team have a quick opportunity to put the result behind them, travelling away to Colwyn Bay this Saturday in the Welsh Cup fourth round.
