Barry Town 0

Cardiff Grange Quins 1

BARRY TOWN were hoping to win promotion and pop the champagne corks in front of a bumper Jenner Park crowd on Tuesday - but the night ended in disappointment after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Cardiff Grange Quins.

With Town's superior goal difference over league challengers UWIC and Cardiff Corinthians, a win against local rivals Quins would have all but secured promotion for The Dragons.

But a fortuitous late goal by Quins sealed three points for the visitors, and with UWIC securing a 3-1 on the same night, the fight for promotion rumbles on.

Quins struck late in the game when a hopeful chip into the Barry Town penalty box deceived goalkeeper Bradley, hit the post and flew into the net.

Promotion has looked odds-on since Town recently beat UWIC 1-0 at Jenner Park and it has been a great achievement by player/manager Gavin Chesterfield, who took over in the summer and has quickly assembled a side capable of promotion.

In fact Town are still battling it out with Bettws for the title.

As an incentive to supporters, Barry Town's last home match of the season, against Llangeinor on 29 April, is free to anyone who purchases a season ticket for next year.

Season tickets can be bought at the club, which is open from midday to 11pm every day of the week.

Town are aiming for 1,000 season tickets and are offering specially reduced prices to try and achieve their target.

Chairman Stuart Lovering has announced that for 17 league matches and up to 7 League Cup matches, prices are: Adults £50, OAPs £40, Students £30 and Under-16s £10.

Manager Gavin Chesterfield is also appealing for businesses to come forward and sponsor the club.

He said: "It's a shame that Barry Town remain without a sponsor - though village teams we play have sponsors on their shirts.

"The chairman says that if a business comes forward in the next few days to sponsor the first team, he can immediately put their names on the shirts as a bonus so that they can benefit from this season's promotion as well as next year's campaign.

"I understand that the club going into administration five years ago and the slip from the pinnacle of Welsh football hit Barry hard, but the club is now being run properly and once again achieving success.

"Barry Town are once again on the brink of substantial success and I strongly appeal for the public to buy the great value season tickets and for businesses to get involved in Barry Town".
