LAST weekend saw a group of Sea Cadets from the Barry unit win the district sailing competition at Llandegfedd Reservoir.

The Cadets learnt to sail and practiced at the Barry Community Watersports Centre on the docks in Barry.

Team manager CI Teilo Richardson said: "The competition this year was extremely tough with the Quest fleet needing an extra race in order to break the tie for second place.

"The cadets are very excited and looking forward to the next stage of the competition."

The winners will all go forward to the next round, the Area Regatta to be held at the end of the July and if successful there will then go on to the National Finals in Southport.

Barry won the overall Team Trophy by coming first in the Quest Class in a boat helmed by Able Cadet Jake Richardson and crewed by Cadet 1st Class Josh Edwards, First in the Topper Class was Cadet 1st Class Borges and first in the Pico Class was Cadet 1st Class Barker.

Also placing were Cadets Webber and Jennings, who came third in the Quest Class and Cadet Hughes who was third in the Topper Class.
