A FIRST ever FAW Cup final appearance awaits for Barry Town United Ladies U16s, after they dispatched north Wales side Corwen FC 2-0 in last weekend's semi-final.

Barry made the long trip to Latham Park, Newtown last Sunday looking to reach the final of the biggest junior girls cup competition in Wales, as they sought to make amends for a tough semi-final defeat last season.

The game started at a frantic pace with both teams taking time to settle, but it was Barry who found their rhythm first in the opening period and deservedly took the lead through a well taken goal from Sian Rees.

With the defensive unit composed and dealing well with Corwen’s direct approach, the visitors began to take a stranglehold on the game and looked confident in possession.

Barry were threatening the Corwen goal on a regular basis, with efforts hitting the post and crossbar before Rees grabbed her second of the game to put Barry into a commanding position.

To their credit, Corwen came out in the second half and started to build some pressure on the Barry goal, with 'keeper Ruth Stanley making a smart save to her right to keep the scoreline at 2-0.

Barry weathered a good spell of possession by the north Wales side and finished the match on the front foot to secure their final berth in style.

The club would like to congratulate all the players and coaches Lee Jenkins and Edryd Thomas.
