ON SATURDAY Barry Athletic first XI entertained Whitchurch Heath in their penultimate game of the season, as they went down by 77 runs.
Whitchurch Heath won the toss and decided to bat first, before quickly being reduced to 60-6 with Peter Hellyar taking 5-27 in his 10 overs.
At this stage however, Vanos and Tibbs came together and added 143 for the seventh wicket to take Whitchurch to 265-9 from their 50 overs.
In reply Barry were soon three wickets down, but Usswald and Zeeshan added some respectability to the score, scoring 33 and 25 respectively. Peter Hellyar made 25 and Lee Morgan 59 as Barry reached 188 all-out, meaning that despite the defeat they were able to gain a valuable seven points towards staving off relegation.
This Saturday Barry first XI entertain champions in waiting Abergavenny, with the second XI travelling to Croesyceiliog.
On Sunday, September 24, Barry Athletic Cricket Club will be holding a car boot sale at The Athletic Ground from 8am. Entry is £10 per car, with spaces limited to 50 cars on a first come, first served basis.
