AS PREPARATIONS continue for the club's Welsh Premier League return, Barry Town United manager Gavin Chesterfield has strengthened his coaching staff with the appointment of Richard Williams as First Team Coach.

Williams brings a wealth of experience to the club from both his playing days and coaching background and is working towards his UEFA PRO License.

Commenting on the appointment, Mr Chesterfield said: "I'm delighted to bring Richy to the club.

"He's someone I've worked closely with in recent years and he brings real quality and much experience.

"Ahead of next season, it's an area that I feel we needed to strengthen, but it needed to be the right person.

"Richy's qualities both as a coach and as a person ensure that he is a great fit for our club".

The Barry squad returned to training on Tuesday, July 4, bolstered by summer recruits Kayne McLaggon, Elliot Scotcher and Sam Jones.

Supporters will have a first chance to see the new signings in action on Saturday, July 15 when Welsh League Division One adversaries Goytre are their first pre-season opponents at Jenner Park (2.30pm kick-off).

Finally, the club was saddened to learn of the passing of long-time fan Trevor Beerling last week.

A regular at Jenner Park for countless seasons and a familiar presence on the team's long-distance coach trips, he rarely missed a Barry Town fixture and helped the club in a number of different roles off the field, from clean-up volunteer to match sponsor.

A loyal Barry supporter through times thick and thin, it goes without saying that Trevor Beerling will be missed; and his unique character and enthusiasm for the game will not be soon forgotten.
