BARRY Town United will host Penybont at Jenner Park on Saturday, November 5, in the Second Round of the JD Welsh Cup, after Gavin Chesterfield’s team recorded a comfortable 5 - 0 First Round victory against Aberbargoed Buds on Saturday, October 1.

For the second successive weekend, resurgent Barry striker TJ Nagi helped himself to a two-goal haul, with teammates Ryan Evans, James Dixon and Kareem Leigh completing the scoring at the CCB Centre of Sporting Excellence in Ystrad Mynach.

Of additional note, 24-year-old skipper James Saddler enjoyed his 200th appearance on Saturday; an impressive run in Town colours that has encompassed some 189 starts, with 109 as captain.

Should the Town be able to advance against Penybont in November, the Welsh League Division One side could be pitted against one of the Welsh Premier League outfits, with old foes Rhyl, Bangor City, and last season’s Welsh Cup opponents TNS among those to enter at the Third Round stage.

Meanwhile, Barry’s planned Welsh League fixture with Risca United, previously set for this Saturday, has been postponed, as the Cuckoos attempt to complete their Welsh Cup fixture at Treowen Stars.

The Treowen versus Risca match was one of eight ties across the country to fall victim to the weather last weekend, with the Town set next for a top of the table showdown at Goytre on Saturday, October 15.

In other action from the weekend, the Barry development side were winners of an extra-time thriller at Jenner Park in the FAW Youth Cup, defeating their counterparts from Cardiff Met by four goals to three, with Bradley Cotterill grabbing a hat-trick and Josh Hobbs also on target.

Elsewhere, Barry’s ladies first team were 3 - 1 winners at Pontypridd Town in the South Wales FA Women’s Cup, while members of the club’s academy enjoyed a successful day of football at Cambrian and Clydach.

Finally, congratulations are in order for Caitlin Bevan and Grace Horrell of the club’s girls section, who earned their first international caps for the Wales Under-17 side in their 2 - 1 win over Turkey in Latvia.
