BARRY Romilly Bowls Club visited Ferndale on Saturday for their last game of the season which was a rearranged fixture.

Both sides were unable to win the league but Ferndale were in second place just ahead of Romilly in third place. With Caerphilly already champions, Romilly as last year's champions were eager to finish in second position but had to beat Ferndale by at least 13 - 1 but playing at Ferndale, winning was going to be extremely difficult.

Ferndale fielded their strongest team of their season whilst for Romilly their were five regular first team players missing through holidays. Fortunately Romilly were able to call on players who were regulars in the club's A team who have gained promotion for the second year in succession.

The A team players namely Denis Mottram, Tony Jones and Brian Cheal acquitted themselves well in a Romilly team who fought right to the end losing out by just one shot 79 - 80.

With three rinks losing it was Jeff Wright's rink playing brilliantly winning by 27 shots 35 - 8 gaining two points for Romilly to Ferndale's 12.

A Jones, G Rees, P Williams, M Newman 28 - 14

P Gershenson, G Eastment, C Collins, J Wright 8 - 35

A Bannister, B Cheal, F Phillips, G Cogbill 20 - 17

D Mottram, R Hewitson, R Jones, B Foscolo 24 - 13

Another excellent season for the Romilly club with the first side finishing third in the first division and the club's A team achieving promotion from division 4 to division 3 after

winning division 5 the previous year.
