EXTREMELY disappointing is how you could describe Barry Athletic Cricket Club's 1st XI's 2015 season as they fell to humiliation.

It has come to the point that many of the 1st XI have it in their heads that they can't be dropped to the 2nd XI.

On Saturday they entertained Pontymister after losing the toss Barry were asked to bowl first and Pontymister posted a daunting target of 256 all out with Ghori scoring 138 not out for the visitors with John Gee three for 30 and Paul Murphy three for 22 being the main wicket takers, gee with figures of nine for 92 in his last three games.

In reply Barry were totally humiliated as they were bowled out for a mere 58 with only Goodway scoring double figures with 20 not out.

This defeat sums up Barry's 125th anniversary season when so much was expected and so little came with many 1st team players either not showing commitment or not showing up with their skills on match days.

The only saving light for Barry has been the 2nd XI admirably captained by Ashley Baker, who has had a team that has had his respect and wanting to play for him and has taken the team to second place and a possibility of the title, only losing one game all season.

On Saturday the 2nd XI travelled to Pontymister and came away with an emphatic win by six wickets with Damon Leake taking three for 15, Richard Eastman three for 14, Steve Oram two for nine, new father Jake Griffett one for 18 and Glan Williams one for 11 taking the wickets, as Barry bowled Pontymister out for 99.

In reply Barry reached their target for the loss of four wickets with Jake Griffett 42 and the ever reliable Lee Morgan 28 not out.

The Club would like to thank Mark Ellis and Tom Davies for all their hard work throughout the season with the Junior section, with neither being members of the Club they have given up their free time to do this and it has gone well through the season with an average number of 20 to 25 juniors turning up on Tuesday evenings.

It has been a joy to see so many youngsters at The Athletic Ground at these sessions.
