MILLWOOD Bowling Club lost their Munro Cup game by a fairly slender margin of only six shots, but then if you lose by one shot, that means another loss is recorded.

After the fourth end had been played Millwood had a lead of nine shots (16 – 9) which looked a good start, whereupon at the ninth end the lead had swung to Penarth who had taken a two shot lead at (27 – 29).

Penarth then proceeded to apply further pressure for them to take a five shot lead at (40 – 45) after the 13th end, but as hard as Millwood bowlers tried to win the game in the last quarter, luck prevailed against them for Penarth to come out victors by the six shot margin.

Millwood now have only three more games to play in the Munro Cup now, (Barry Romilly – home, Llantwit Major – away, Sully – home).

At present Millwood have played 11, won six and lost five. They won’t be on the winner’s rostrum this year, but the playing spirit is still there.

In this second round of the Alan Martin Memorial Cup played against a good Barry Athletic side, Millwood suffered a rather one sided defeat.

Though 21 ends should have been played, there was too much of a shot difference for the last two ends to be played, even though rink three were only six shots behind at the closure.

On completion of the first quarter of the game, Athletic were 11 shots in the lead at (3-14), and after the tenth end their lead had risen to (9 – 26) a matter of 17 shots.

When the 15th end had been played there was a 29 shot difference at (12 – 41) in Athletic’s favour, for the game to go to the home side by a 30 shot margin.

It seemed that whatever Athletic tried on rink two, seemed to pay dividends, because at one point Millwood were lying six shots in the end, only for the last bowl to completely damage the end and give Athletic the shot.

Though on the other rink (three), it was a far tighter game, but still enjoyable, played on a nicely swinging green, on a lovely summer’s evening.

Thank you to Barry Athletic for an enjoyable evening, good luck in your next round.
