BARRY remains undefeated in the league following a 31 points to 12 bonus point win at Cowbridge last Saturday.

Despite the score-line, Barry were made to work hard, especially in the second half, to maintain pressure on league leaders Dinas Powys, who they meet this weekend at home this Saturday kick off at 2.30pm.

One of the better aspects of the League this season is to see the ambition all sides have to play open running rugby as much as is possible, and this game was not short of that.

The visitors took the lead as early as the sixth minute when following a good lineout drive the ball found Perry to burst through the defence to cross, with Scott adding the extras.

Cowbridge were employing tactical kicking which kept the Barry defence on the back foot for a while.

However one poor kick allowed Barry to counter attack through their threequarters from their own half with the ball passing several pairs of hands before reaching White who waded through tackles from 50 yards out to cross for a fine try wide out that went unconverted.

Perhaps two early tries affected Barry as their play became scrappy and loose providing Cowbridge with plenty of possession which, thankfully, they were unable to turn into points.

Having regrouped Barry went further ahead when a kick ahead was only half gathered and good following up by Provis saw the ball hacked ahead for the ever present Poole to score with Scott successful with the conversion.

A similar kick and chase was to lead to the visitors’ final try of the half as they regained possession and released the backs with Perry's beautifully timed pass creating space for Ryan to go over.

The missed conversion gave Barry a well deserved 24 point at half time.

The second period began slowly with both sides blowing hot and cold and mistakes being the order of the day.

Still enjoying plenty of possession and using it to release their backs Barry opened the second half scoring with a try by White, but one which was created by some fine link play between Scott and Perry the former providing the extra points.

A mixture of substitutions by both sides, the home side having to go passive at scrum time changed the complexion of the game, with the homeside suddenly finding the energy to attack the Barry defence.

This worked as they were rewarded with an interception try from a Barry attack to open their account.

With their confidence growing and Barry prone to over elaborate Cowbridge continued to maintain pressure and force Barry into conceding penalties.

They were suitably rewarded, when, from a lineout following a penalty a second deserved try was created from a blindside snipe which brought the score to 12-31, which as it turned out was to be the final score as the last were played out.

Whilst Barry never looked like losing the game, it is sure they will be aware that they will need to be at their very best to beat unbeaten Dinas Powys this weekend.
