MASONS Moving Group seconds came up against Barry Rovers at Seven Avenue with only a point separating the two teams. With players injured and away player manager Lee Galsworthy had to call in two first team players to help fill the bench. The game started with both teams testing each other out and after five minutes it was obvious this was going to be a physical game. With crunching tackles from both teams.

Barry Rovers took a deserved lead after 15 minutes when a pin point cross found their number six unmarked who dispatched a perfect header into the top of the net.

MMG were dealt another blow as their keeper Ross had an unfortunate clash with a Barry Rovers player that resulted in him later needing six staples in his head. He was replaced by the ever-reliable Scott Nelson. He was soon called into action tipping one wide of the goal.

The game changed when David ‘Dez’ Evans hit a speculative long shot that their keeper couldn’t hold and went into the net to bring the scores level. MMG stepped up their efforts and they were rewarded with a free kick about 25 yards out. The resultant free kick that was hit with pace which was juggled by the away keeper before going in.

The game carried on in the physical fashion with the referee keeping a tight leash on the game. Midway through the second half Drew Burniston jinked his was passed three players to unleash a fierce shot but was being held by at least one of the Rovers defence, penalty, duly dispatched by Dez for his hat-trick. Paul Murphy was replaced by ‘Mogsy’ Rodgers and with tem minutes left, the tireless Mason was replaced with ‘Rocky’ Spears.

Credit to the referee who had a hard game to ref with neither side backing down and he did well to keep all players on the pitch. Big ups to Josh Cummings and Paul Edwards for their man of the match displays.

MMG would like to thank their sponsor BRT International for their support and for providing them with the brightest kit in the league.
