SULLY Centurions Cricket Club's 1st XI were grateful to the rain after their match at Rhoose was abandoned at the halfway stage with their opponents Welsh Asians in a commanding position.
Centurions' 2nd XI, with only nine men due to all sorts of unavailability, hosted second in the table Newbridge and came off second best in a match that was punctuated with interruptions for rain. The visitors batted first and racked up a score of 253 for 3, with opener Wellington making a century and James hitting 54. The bowlers were put to the sword, but young Gethin Hicks continues to impress as he took 2 wickets from his 5 overs.
The Centurions innings was a bit of a disaster, with wickets falling regularly. Ricky Griffett, batting at number 3, hit a fine 30 before being bowled by James, but of the rest of the batsmen, only Munim Khan (16) reached double figures and Sully were all out for just 78. Pick of the Newbridge bowlers was James, who added to his half century with the bat with a return of 3 for 14 off 9 overs.
This was definitely one to forget for Centurions.
