WITH THE girls on a mid-season break, it was up to the Sea View Rugby Club men's team to finally win a game.

The View started the ball rolling in their last fixture against Abersychan Alexanders RFC with a 25-2 victory. The points came from a hat-trick of tries from mighty Dai Harris and a brace of penalties and a conversion from the sweet boot of Chris West. A hard fought encounter, with sterling performances from all 15 players.

The run continued in an away fixture at Old Tylerians RFC where, despite the first airing of this season's new kit, sponsored by Refrigeration Cymru and Ford Fruit and Veg, the View suffered their customary slow start. At half-time, the View trailed 17-0.

After a stirring interval speech from captain Chris 'Spam' Hann, the View girded their loins and fought back and, with 15 minutes of the half gone, Leon Ford crashed over and Chris 'C J' West slotted the extras. More points soon followed, with the impressive Mr West gathering a sliced clearance kick and sprinting over the line for a try which he also converted.

Leading by just three points, Old Tylerians threw everything at the View to try and close out the match but the local side had other ideas, and their forwards rumbled up the park, moving the ball through several phases before releasing their backs.

The Tylerians' defence held them up on the line but, from the base of a ruck, man-of- the-match Leon Ford forced his way over to give the View a 19-17 lead. With the conversion missed, there then followed five minutes where Old Tylerians battered their way into the View 22 but were held up by a superb defence, which was a credit to the head coach Huw Thomas. View held strong and were delighted with a second win.

Thanks as always to our families and supporters; thanks also to our sponsors.

RAVENS AT THE TRIALS

NOW that the Ravens' league games are completed, the regional competition begins. Representative sides from the regions are being selected and three Ravens - Melissa Clay, Rafiuke Taylor and Savannah Taylor - made it through the trials day to the provisional Blues Squad.

This weekend they took part in a regional festival at Llandovery RFC, playing a series of trial matches against the other regions. Congratulations from all at the View; fingers crossed they'll be selected for the upcoming series of games.

The Ravens are always on the look out for new players so, even if you've never played and fancy trying a new sport, come on down; details at www.seaviewrfc.co.uk
