*Barry is to have its own sporting Hall of Fame.thanks to the enthusiasm of D J P Richards, headmaster of Cadoxton Secondary School and winner of many Welsh championships.

*Barry's football is on the upgrade. There's no doubt about it after the way they thrashed Hereford on Thursday - and then came this tribute from Gravesend's captain and ex-Arsenal player, after the defeat at Gravesend on Saturday: "Barry are a promising bunch of youngsters."

EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of April 21, 1983: *A total of 142 candidates are chasing 84 seats in next month's community council elections in Barry, Dinas Powys, Llantwit Major, Wenvoe, St Athan, Llancarfan and Michaelston. The biggest battle is looming in Barry itself, where 52 candidates are struggling for 22 seats.

*Traffic around Barry Police Station was stopped on Friday evening while Army bomb disposal experts destroyed a dangerous hand-grenade in a controlled explosion to the rear of the building.

*A microlite aircraft piloted by a local man crash landed in a field in the Rhoose area on Friday afternoon. The pilot Mr Jones of Fontygary Road, Rhoose, was not injured in the incident, which happened soon after 4pm, and he was able to dismantle his slightly damaged aircraft and remove it from the scene.
