TAKING my regular walk from Aberystwyth Crescent off Trinity Street to Coldbrook where my son, his girlfriend and my granddaughter live, I was delighting in the sunny weather, crossing the small stream/river along and up into Jenkin Street, emerging behind the King William IV public house (The King Billy).

As I crossed the flowing water and paused on the small bridge a Kingfisher (the first I’ve ever seen in Barry and I’ve lived her now for 35 years) darted out from the culvert and sped down over the water and rubbish lining the banks and in the water itself.

An idyllic scene marred by the usual Barry ‘dump-it-anywhere but not-outside-the-house’ mentality.

That sums it up. This part of Barry – Old Cadoxton, beautiful, with an ancient church, and a refurbished and vibrant public house is like the rest of our town, blighted by the dumpers.

I have a lot of pride in Barry. It’s a great place to live and raise children (and grandchildren), but I wish the dumpers would go away or clean up, and perhaps themselves take time to admire the view and not blight it for the rest of us.
