I WOULD like to thank Cllr Bronwen Brooks for her recent reply in which she expressed her support regarding the neglected Treharne (Iolo) Park (Barry & District News, November 11).

It is good to see that she is supporting a worthy cause. However, it is a shame that it appears to have taken a long time to realise that this park is in such decline and publicly declare support for it. I wonder whether the nearing local election is having an impact on our local councillors.

It seems to me that it is only at such times that the views of the traditional political parties seem to support those of the voting public and what is best for Barry.

It’s always been in the run-up to an election that the councillors appear to start to push for what is best for their vote. It makes me question the motivation behind it.

My belief has always been that our local elected representatives should focus on Barry and what is best for it at all times. Does that happen?

At the recent Court Ward PACT meeting, I also proposed that this new park (project) should have CCTV added to the plans. I was pleased that this was warmly welcomed by independent Cllr Richard Bertin who supported the idea and saw its potential along with the new park.

This simple addition would allow our children not only to play, but to do so with an added degree of safety.

I truly believe that such a project has great potential for the children in the Treharne area. It is good that this area is finally being given the focus of attention and spotlight that it deserves.
