I NOTE in the Barry & District News on October 27, that solicitors acting for the owners of the London Eye have written to the owners of the ferris wheel located at Barry Island informing them that they may be in breach of registered trademark if they refer to the ferris wheel at Barry Island as the Barry Eye.

I am not connected with the company that owns the ferris wheel in any way, but such a warning causes me concern, as this suggests to me that they claim to own the trademark on the use of the word “eye”.

If that is the case, I wonder whether I am in breach of this trademark by referring to one of the optical sensory organs that I was born with as an eye, and if this is the case, what should I call it instead?
