DEAR editor,

In response to the recent article in the Barry & District News, regarding the Welsh government's proposed ban on the use of e-cigarettes in enclosed public spaces, I would like to point out the following:

In recent tests in the USA it has been discovered that lung tissue cells, when exposed to e-cigarette vapours, mutate in a very similar way to cells which have been exposed to tobacco smoke.

In addition, many e-cigarettes contain formaldehyde and acetaldehyde, which are both known carcinogens. Therefore, far from being safe, e-cigarettes pose a substantial risk to anyone who is exposed to their 'vapours' and as tobacco before them, should be banned from all enclosed public spaces.

The overriding principal must be that those who are addicted to nicotine should not be allowed to expose other people to the toxic by-products of their addiction.
