I WAS highly delighted and surprised by nonetheless extremely proud when I read an article in the Barry & District News of July 9 concerning the Vale Reds Pan Disability Football Club.

I have never been involved with the running of the club but until the beginning of the 2014/15 was a fairly regular supporter whilst my son was playing for the club.

Unfortunately my darling wife passed away in September 2014 and mine and my sons support faded (at this time my son was no longer playing football for the club).

However at the start of the season I was asked to contact the chairman Neil Latham. To my surprise he and his wife Pat said that the club wanted to create an award to recognise the support my wife had given to the club. So the Myra Phillips Award came into being.

As a family we are extremely proud of the fact that Myra is so well thought of. I have not been in contact with the club since the beginning of the season and did not attend the presentation evening bit I am pleased that the committee felt that Neil was a worthy recipient of the award.

Now that the club is under the umbrella of the Barry Town United Football Club I hope they will continue to thrive and build on the success already achieved.
