WITH our towns in Wales missing their recycling targets, why are our ‘authorities’ shutting centres down? Surely the money made from selling on all this recycling can pay to keep them open.

As you can see from the picture taken at The Knap in Barry, 95 per cent plus of the items we the public recycle are ‘legitimate’ items. Yes there is the odd vacuum cleaner or chair (both recyclable) but this is mainly due to the inaccessibility of other sites.

Maybe our council should stop telling us it is due to ‘fly tipping’ and start telling us the truth. No doubt they have reallocated the funds for other purposes.

It is time our councils, right up the supply chain of funds, stop being manipulated by large corporations with vested interests in us buying more material items rather than recycle what we already have.

Where are our ‘green’ councillors when their voice for us needs to be heard, somewhere, no doubt, with their vested interest big business buddies telling us not to ‘fly tip’? Maybe we the public should set up our own recycle centres and cut out the middle men?

While we are at it we could also set up our own Post Office in the community centre at Highlight Park, Barry as big business and their political representatives are not going to help their either.
