REGARDING the amalgamation of local authorities I think that the electors of the Vale of Glamorgan should have their say in this matter. I believe that under section 94 of the local government act that any member of the council that has a pecuniary interest directly or indirectly in a contract or other matters which is under consideration they shall not take part in the discussion or vote on it.

It seems to me that the councillors of the Vale of Glamorgan have a pecuniary interest in the amalgamation proposal as I understand that only a small number will retain their seats if the Vale amalgamates with Cardiff but many more will keep their seats if they select Bridgend.

Why not have a referendum on this matter and let the voters of the Vale decide who they want to go with, or is it another case of ignoring the wishes of the residents of the Vale of Glamorgan and we will make the decision?

We have an election next May why not kill two birds with one stone and hold a referendum on the same day; I can’t wait to hear their excuses why we can’t.
