WITH works about to begin on the Coldbrook Catchment Flood Scheme I would like to inform readers living along the catchment, particularly those living in the immediate area of the Dyfan Road open space to check with their House Insurance companies if their policies need to change as there will be a Water Storage Lagoon near their properties.
Having had our renewal due in November our insurers would not even give us a quote! Given the little time to renew we had to accept another policy for quite a hike in price, due to the fact there will be a Water Attenuation nearby and no guarantee from the council so there is a risk.
We find this very hard to comprehend, given that this scheme is supposed to help alleviate flooding and benefit us all.
These price changes are due to this lagoon and once we have written confirmation from our insurer we will present that information to the council for inspection and comment as this scheme was reported as ‘justified’ in October by councillor Curtis.
I do wonder if he feels the rising cost is justified too!
In these times of austerity and with Christmas looming, we would welcome any help to cover the costs of this inconvenience.
