IN response to your article relating to a cannabis factory in a council house (Barry & District News, October 1), it appears that a major inpropriety has taken place at the cost of the new tenant. This is not to portrait we would want to paint, as residents of Gibbonsdown, having spent the last 28 years working closely with both the police and the Vale of Glamorgan Council to bring about a decent environment for all.

We are fully aware of the constraints placed on councils today and the reduction of resources.

However, this is no excuse for the abysmal way in which this lady has been treated, leaving her over three months in a vulnerable position. Apart from the damage caused by the drug equipment, there are also double glazed windows with seals cut away, which leaves the property dangerous and no longer energy efficient. Yet an officer of the Vale believes they are alright left as they are, with no thought for the tenant’s deteriorating health.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council has a duty of care to all its tenants, ensuring they have safe and well maintained homes in a decent environment, and they are treated with dignity. I am sure the majority will be appalled at the way this poor lady has been treated. Can I urge the Vale of Glamorgan Council to undertake these repairs as a matter of urgency, to allow this tenant the quality of life she deserves.
