I READ with interest the request from a cabinet member or members for ideas as to the possible use for the new beach huts constructed on The Eastern Promenade at Barry Island (Barry & District News, May 22).

I feel compelled to ask the obvious question here and that is, why did the council's cabinet members agree to the construction of these so called beach huts without first having a single clue as to what they should be used for?

Why are we being asked to put ideas forward as to the eventual use of these beach huts? Why did the cabinet member for regeneration, innovation and transportation agree for this development to manifest without first giving thought to the eventual use of these beach huts? Is this person just paid to put forward plans for which it is then put on the shoulders of the taxpayer to make comment on the best way forward for the subsequent use of the proposed development , or should the cabinet member have first consulted with the local taxpayer as to what should be developed on the site before making such a ridiculous request as to the ideas the cabinet member would like the taxpayer to put forward.

This should have all been thought out and planned well before these structures were even planned let alone built. So what are they for? Who thought up the idea in the first place? And why was it decided to build them before firstly having a true vision as to how they should be used? Last by no means least, why is a paid member of the council having to resort to gain answers to a situation that the council/cabinet member has already been paid to decide?
