REGARDING the letter from Cllr Rob Curtis (‘I could not comment’, Barry & District News, March 14), in which he heavily criticises the alleged attacks on him by his so called political adversaries (eg Barrie V Evans and Jeffrey Heathfield etc), I and others fail to see any significance in his response.

Cllr Curtis, being a governor of Oak Field School for more or less two decades should realise he is in that position due to a certain amount of respect from the people within the community surrounding Oak Field School. By default it would seem that Cllr Curtis springs to the defensive in quoting the rule book of politics in bringing forth the possible discussion of a so called part 2 report, deemed to be confidential, and that he was not allowed comment on such a controversial subject as the closure of this popular school. This part 2 report is, as Cllr Curtis insists, confidential and legally cannot be discussed openly, which meant he could not comment on this at the emergency parents meeting.

I and many other people agree that if Cllr Curtis wishes to obey rules and regulations it did not stop him putting in appearance at the emergency parents meeting to at least show his support and trust, within his civic duty, to support the people that voted him in as a local ward councillor, and also as one of the senior governors of Oak Field School. He did not need to comment he merely needed to attend to show his support.

It is now evident that many civic dignitaries and council officials attended the emergency meeting but Cllr Curtis a senior governor and ward councillor saw fit to attend what he refers to as ‘two meetings at which I could speak and contribute’ as more important. This in itself shows his commitment to his civic pride is something he only wishes to share with us when organising volunteers to clean our beaches for one hour every six months.

Is Councillor Curtis guilty of a travesty of justice regarding Oak Field School - I will let you decide.
