PARKING in Barry is a nightmare, especially if you live around the town centre area.

One of the reasons is that people will not walk too far from their car to the shops, which is understandable especially if they find it difficult to walk.

The car park in Wyndham Street according to the signage on the entry to the car park opens at 9.30am and shuts at 6pm - perfect timing for the average shopper.

Yet for some time now, this car park has been opened at around 8.30am to 9am (sometimes earlier), therefore allowing the shopkeepers and shop workers to park their vehicles all day. This has a knock-on effect, that as the car park is over half full by 9.30am, you can only get half the cars in for the average shopper.

This is causing drivers to look for an alternative area to park, and where better than Wyndham Street itself, and the surrounding area.

The residents of Wyndham Street, of which I am one, feel aggrieved at this council for first making Wyndham Street the main road to the shops when they made Holton road a pedestrian area, and second for not enforcing the parking hours at the car park.

I hope that the council might monitor this car park and ensure it is opened up, as the large letters on the entry sign state, at 9.30am and not before.

I would like to stress that this is not a dig at the shopkeepers and shop workers as they need to park their cars. If they don’t know, the Holton Road multi-storey car park opens at 7am.
