THE Safer Vale Partnership has secured funding, including £160,000 from the Welsh Assembly Government through the Barry Regeneration Area programme, to upgrade current CCTV cameras and install brand new ones throughout Barry.

There are currently 51 CCTV cameras in the Vale. These have assisted in 312 arrests since April 2010, with 92 per cent of these arrests in Barry.

The new camera locations have been chosen as a result of strategic planning to ensure the areas in most need benefit from the safety and reassurance that comes with CCTV.

The new locations include:

* Holton Road near Evans Street

* Holton Road near Regent Street (upgrade)

* Thompson Street

* Barry Leisure Centre / Contact Centre

* New locations at Barry Island

* Bassett Park

* Provincial House

* Gladstone Road

* Barry Waterfront

* Barry Fire Station

The new cameras, along with existing CCTV unit,s will be linked back to the main control room which is monitored 24 hours a day by trained staff.
