A BARRY woman has described the amount of dog mess in the streets surrounding her house as ‘horrendous’.

Susan Clements, of Beverley Street in Cadoxton, also criticised the Vale Council for not clearing up the mess that dog owners had failed to pick up.

"Every time I walk around the corner there is dog mess," she said.

"I have phoned the council repeatedly and they don’t seem to have done anything about it.

"You can’t walk with your head up in the air any more, you have to walk with your eyes to the floor in case you stand on something."

Mrs Clements, 61, said the problem is also bad around the pathways between the Rose Park, Victoria Park Community Centre and Cadoxton Nursery.

"It’s been horrendous this year," she added.

"My daughter was on the phone to me in tears last week. Her 17-month-old son tripped and went face down into some dog poo that someone hadn’t picked up in the Rose Park."

Denise White, senior enforcement officer at the Vale Council, vowed that work would begin to clear the area.

"The issues raised regarding Cadoxton area will be addressed immediately with enforcement patrols," she said.

"Parks have been informed regarding cleaning frequency for the pathways around the community centre and the nursery.

"The penalty for committing an offence under the Dogs (Fouling of Land) Act 1996 is a maximum fine of £1,000. Alternatively the opportunity to pay a fixed penalty of £75 may be offered in place of prosecution."

Free poop scoop bags are available from council offices and libraries across the Vale.
