ARSENAL-MAD Barry grandmother Lesley Woolcock has received added support from the club, following a successful Twitter campaign to see her meet their former star Ian Wright.

The 47-year-old former Vale of Glamorgan council play development worker, who is in the palliative stage of ovarian cancer care, was thrilled last week when the former England international called her up and promised to meet.

And now, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and current Arsenal squad have sent her a letter thanking her for her loyalty to the team. They also enclosed a signed photograph.

Mr Wenger wrote: “I have been informed that you have not been very well recently. I am very sorry to hear this and on behalf of everyone at Arsenal Football Club I send you best wishes.

“I have also been told that you are an avid Arsenal supporter. We are extremely grateful for this.”

“It is greatly appreciated," he added.

Friend and former colleague Amanda Benson wrote to the club on behalf of Mrs Woolcock.

She said: “I know how much Lesley loves Arsenal and just randomly thought I would ask them for a signed photo as I wanted to make Lesley smile. I was over the moon when they responded to my email. When I took it down to Lesley and saw her face it was the best feeling knowing I’d made my friend smile.

“As many people have already said and will continue to say Lesley is one in a million. I've always looked up to her since we met at the play development team eight years ago she one of a kind.”

Mrs Woolcock said she was delighted she would get to meet former striker Wright “It’s amazing. I’ve waited so long to meet him,” she said.

Mrs Woolcock successfully fought to be given live-prolonging drug Avastin after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2014.

She continues to campaign in a bid to raise awareness of the disease.
