Cardiff Bus has announced it will be sponsoring the Vale’s Jazz Festival, which launches this weekend.

The festival, will be opened on King Square, Barry at 4pm on Friday, June 19 by the Archbishop of Wales Dr Barry Morgan and will see 20 acts play in 10 venues across the town.

During the same weekend, the RAF aerobatic team, the Red Arrows, will also be in Barry demonstrating its popular acrobatic sky flights for the Barry Wartime Weekend.

Cardiff Bus is reminding its customers who want to attend the events that its number 95 service will take them directly to Barry Island.

The bus operator also offers a family day ticket which costs £5 in the Cardiff and Penarth fare area, £7 in the Cardiff and Barry fare zone and £4.50 in the Barry fare zone on the weekend.

The event is also being sponsored by the Arts Council for Wales, the Vale of Glamorgan Council, Barry Town Council and Newydd Housing.

Gareth Stevens, business development manager at Cardiff Bus, said: “We are delighted to support the Vale’s Jazz Festival, which will be a great boost to tourism in the area.

"As we provide a service to residents in the Vale, we feel it is important to support local events to ensure they are able to take place.

“With the jazz festival being launched, and the popular Barry Wartime Weekend, we recommend that people travel via bus in order to avoid any parking difficulties. "We want to remind people that we have a reduced price family ticket, which provide cost effective ways to travel to events in Cardiff, Barry and Penarth.

“We hope that there is a good turnout, as it is likely that the jazz festival will become a regular part of the Barry Island Weekender events if enough people show their support by attending.”
