THE inventor of the electronic breathalyser and co-founder of a Barry based business, Dr Thomas Parry Jones has been honoured with a blue plaque outside his former workplace in Cardiff.
Dr Jones OBE co-founded Lion Laboratories in Moira Street, Cardiff, in 1967 and changed the world in 1979 when he developed the electronic breathalyser.
Speaking at the unveiling of the Moira Street plaque Managing director of Lion Laboratories, which is now based at Ty Verlon Industrial Estate, Barry, spoke about Dr Jones' legacy.
He described how Dr Jones was much more than a scientist and businessman but also a great humanitarian.
The Lord Mayor of Cardiff Margaret Jones emphasised the importance of Lion Laboratories and praised the extraordinary achievements of Dr Tom Parry Jones, his Philanthropic works and how his invention and enterprise has saved countless lives worldwide.
Lion Laboratories have sold over half a million breathalysers to over 100 countries, and are largely considered the world leader in their field. They currently employ 78 people at their Barry Site.
