IT WAS an action packed Saturday for Vale based Taekwondo School, JSTKD Martial Arts & Fitness. As well as their annual Fun Day, club members also took part in a sponsored Kickathon to raise funds for this year’s chosen charity. Every year JSTKD, via the Jenny Schembri Foundation (JSF) chooses a local good cause to support and this year the recipient is Penarth toddler, Alfie Porter Smith who has a rare form of Cerebral Palsy which requires intensive specialist treatment. The aim of this is to assist Alfie to walk and lead as active a life as possible. The JSF was set up by JSTKD’s Head Instructor, Joseph Schembri in memory of his mother and everyone at the club takes part whether that’s by participating in one of the many fundraising events or sponsoring others to do so.

The Kickathon saw club members of all ages coming up with their most spectacular kicks to raise money and sales of tickets to the Fun Day also boosted funds. Following the Kickathon, it was time to replace some energy at the barbecue, with coffee kindly provided by Starbucks. Club members then made the most of a truly enormous bouncy castle and took part in the annual water fight which was definitely not for the faint-hearted as weapons of almost mass destruction were brandished mercilessly within the grounds of Rhws Primary School where the event was held.

Club members are now eagerly looking forward to the remaining fundraising activities scheduled throughout the autumn and to sponsoring Head Instructor, Joseph, who is leading by example and competing in the gruelling Ironman Barcelona event on October 5, where he will consecutively swim 2.4 miles, cycle 112 miles and then run a marathon.
