A SPECIAL opening day was held at Alexandra Gardens in glorious sunshine to mark the official opening of new play facilities and fitness equipment.
The opening coincided with National Play Day in Wales with the Vale Council’s Sports Development Team led by Jo Jones organising games and activities for local children and families.
The new facilities include a play pod for young children through to teenagers and also refurbished tennis and basketball courts.
The fitness equipment will encourage more healthy lifestyles and help create an enjoyable environment for users of the Community Centre.
The Mayor of Barry, Councillor Jeff Evans attended the opening.
Councillor Gwyn John, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Parks, Culture and Sport Development, said: “Working in partnership with the community has proven beneficial for the users of the site.
"I look forward to the improved wellbeing opportunities for all ages and sectors of the local community when using this equipment.”
The facilities are located next to the new Margaret Alexander Gardens Community Centre, opened in July 2013, which will continue to be managed by volunteers via the Alexandra Gardens Community Association registered charity.
