EASTENDERS fans curious to know what became of Sonia Fowler’s off-screen husband Martin had were able to spot the actor who played him in Barry.
James Alexandrou, who played Martin Fowler in the popular soap, swapped the Albert Square market fruit and veg stall for action on the streets of Holby City, when he re-located to Barry’s town centre for filming of an episode of Casualty, on Wednesday, August 6.
The popular BBC One drama serial, aired since 1986, has filmed frequently in Barry since production re-located from Bristol to Cardiff’s Roath Lock studios with some Barry residents gaining roles as extras.
Locations have so far included areas in and around Barry Island, Barry docks, King Square and Gibbonsdown.
Barry Island trader, Marco Zeraschi has dubbed the area Barrywood following Barry’s appearances as part of Gavin and Stacey, Doctor Who, Torchwood, The Sarah Jane Adventures, and most recently Stella where filming took place in Romilly Park.
