Extracts from the Barry & District News of January 26, 1967:

A meeting to discuss safety on Barry's beaches and the provision of a life-saving service to bathers is to be held between a council sub-committee and members of the Gelligaled Lifeguard Club.

The Entertainments and Seaside Activities Committee, meeting on Thursday week, recommended that discussions should take place, after a letter had been read from the lifeguard club.

Senior citizens in the area of High Street, Barry, will be interested to know that the WRVS is opening a new Darby and Joan Club, which is to be held in St Paul's Church on Tuesday next, January 31, at 2.30pm.

Only two local teenagers out of more than 50 who entered, submitted the correct answer in a competition organised in conjunction with the visit of the Small Faces to the Memorial Hall on February 3.

As of Saturday, February 4, the Head Post Office in Holton Road and the following sub-Post Offices will close at 4.30pm on Saturdays: Bron-y-Mor, High Street, King Square, Park Road, Vale Street, Weston Hill and Winston Road.

Almost 730 persons in Barry are unemployed - this figure, the worst recorded for several years, is disclosed in the monthly report of the local Ministry of Labour.

Following the fall of unemployment from November to December, the latest figures which apply to the four weeks ended January 9, show a slight increase.

The Judo section is holding its annual display and competitions in the gymnasium tomorrow at 7.30pm. A good night is expected and trophies will be awarded to the successful contestants. It is hoped that all lovers of Judo will support this event because the proceeds will go towards the purchase of more mats for the Dojo.

Saturday was a mixed day for Barry league clubs in cup matches against Cardiff clubs. Three teams, Barry Saints, Sea View Labour and Colcot Stars, reached the next round of their respective clubs.
