A BARRY woman has raised more than £500 for charity by having her head shaved!

Sharon Christopher, 40, had her locks shaved off in aid of Velindre Cancer Centre, after both of her parents were diagnosed with different forms of the disease.

Sharon, of the Pastures in Colcot, held the event at Scoundrels Hairdressers on Richard Street.

"I lost my mum nine years ago to bone cancer and I’m doing this in memory of her," she said.

"We also found out in January this year that my father has lung cancer.

"My father is either going to have to have surgery or chemotherapy, so if he loses his hair I thought I could do it too to support him."

Sharon has raised £550 through sponsorship so far, and will donate all of the money to Velindre.

"My friends said I was mad when I said I was going to get my head shaved," she added.

"My sister said I had got more guts than her and said good luck!"

And Sharon, who works as a carer, was happy with her new style.

"I was a bit nervous beforehand but I love it now," she said.

"I’ll either wear a bobble hat or walk around with a bald head!"
