AFC BUTETOWN 0 Sully Sports 3

A BEAUTIFUL day greeted the teams for this South Wales Senior League Division One game at the San Siro, which looked a little like a building site with all the new facilities being created in Butetown.

The game between two free-scoring teams started well with chances at both ends.

A superb near-post save by keeper Sharratt denied the very quick Bute forward who was looking a real handful, but then Sports settled down to play some of their best football in recent weeks.

They deservedly led on 20 minutes as Mike Fowler received a good ball and beat two players on the byline before squeezing his shot past the keeper at his near post.

Butetown relied on the quick break but were not able to trouble a solid Sully back four.

After 30 minutes Fowler repeated the move on the left side of the goal, sending the keeper the wrong way for Sully's second.

Liam Beddard, making his long awaited comeback from injury, was revelling in a partnership with Anthony Ferguson, breaking down many Bute moves and creating chances for his colleagues.

The front two of Gareth Hemmens and Garon Davies, who was making his debut, worked tirelessly and were unlucky not to get on the score sheet.

The half time break gave Bute a chance to reorganise but the pattern was still the same in the second half. Some great football saw first Hemmens and then substitute James Barnett go close.

Sully lost Mark Brown with a suspected broken hand after a accidental collision, with Wesley Lamb replacing him.

Another fine move saw Hemmens receive the ball on the left of the area and his perfect cross was met by Garon Davies with a bullet header past the keeper At the other end Sharratt again denied Bute with a great point-blank save.

It was good to keep a clean sheet against one of the league's top scoring teams and now it's all eyes on the Welsh FA Trophy this Saturday at Aberystwyth against Pwllheli.

The players and managers will leave at 6.15pm on Friday night for an overnight stay at a seafront hotel in the resort.

The bus will also take a Sully Junior team to play a local team before they attend the semi-final in the afternoon.

The supporters' bus will leave on Saturday at 8.30am prompt from Sully Sports and Leisure Club.
