Barry Town Football Club have proved they have got the bottle to win the title this season - now they want to get 'fizz-ical'.

The League of Wales' Champions have just announced a new sponsorship deal with soft drink giants Coca-Cola Enterprises (CCE) Ltd (Wales and West Region). This will support the winning club in their quest for success in the coming season.

The Coca-Cola brand Powerade, a fruit-flavoured isotonic drink, will be the club's official sports drink, as well as team sponsors.

The deal places Barry Town in illustrious company. Powerade is also the official drink of the Italian football team, and the Australian rugby and cricket teams. In Britain, the Scotland rugby union team, and Celtic and Rangers football clubs have all adopted the drink. CCE also has ties with Glamorgan Cricket Club and the Welsh Rugby Union.

Announcing the deal, Regional Director of CCE Ltd (Wales and West Region) Gerry Stacey said: "This is part of our long term strategy for sport, and we are delighted to be involved with the Welsh football champions."

Chief Executive of Barry Town Club, Kevin Green, added: "We're thrilled to be associated with Coca-Cola. A figure is never given as to how much the deal is worth, but let's just say Barry Town have the biggest smile. This is a substantial investment, which will help the club move forward.

"One of our aims is to reach out to a younger audience, to join the excitement of the game. There is great synergy between the Powerade brand and Barry Town in the image we are aiming to portray."

The newly-crowned champions hope to add the Welsh FA Cup to their haul, before embarking on another UEFA Champions League campaign, so the energy boost from Powerade could not have come at a better time.
