BARRY children's gymnastics have been boosted by a series of grants to schools and clubs.
Helping to build on the excellent work of local sports groups and organisations in providing gymnastic opportunities for young people in the Vale, the local Community Chest Panel has awarded sums of up to £750 to support organisations in a variety of development projects.
Working in conjunction with the Vale's gymnastics liaison officer Karen Davies, six organisations have benefited from funding to support them in areas such as purchasing new equipment, educating new coaches and improving performance standards through furthering the knowledge and training of existing coaches.
Keen to develop new gymnastic opportunities through after school clubs, Victoria Primary School (Penarth) and Ysgol Sant Curig (Barry) received £750 each towards coach education and the purchase of equipment, while the Tynewydd Hill (Barry), Llantwit Major and Barry YMCA clubs will use grant aid to improve coaching standards and also buy new equipment.
Gymnastics in the Vale is as popular as ever and wide-ranging opportunities include boys, girls and mixed gymnastics and
Gym Tots - mother and toddler for new born to four years. Gym Jynx for three to four year olds. Gymboree/Jazz Dance - gymnastics for disabled people and competitive gymnasts.
Due to the popularity of gymnastics, coaches and volunteers are always in demand and anyone interested in becoming involved in the sport, either as a coach, volunteer, official or participant, can contact Karen Davies on 01446 704728 or via e-mail on KJDavies@valeof glamorgan.gov.uk
