EXTRACTS from the Barry and District News of February 12, 1953:

BARRY'S Coronation Year Mayor and Mayoress will be Ald. Tom Yeoman and Coun. Mrs Yeoman, both Labour members of the town council.

This will be the first occasion on which the mayoress has also been a member of the authority.

Both are members of the teaching profession, and there is every confidence that in a busy year they will carry out their duties with dignity and ability.

THE MONTHLY meeting of Barry Townswomen's Guild was held on Monday in Gladstone Secondary School. Mrs E Joy Davies presided.

It was decided to hold a whist drive in the Memorial Hall on Friday March 6, in aid of the Flood Victim's Relief Fund.

THE BARRY and District branch of the Labour of Youth held a successful concert and social evening on Monday week at the Memorial Hall, This function marked the start of the branch membership drive for 1953.

CINDERELLA, a pantomime in four acts, presented by the Vaughan-Williams' School of Dancing at the Old Pioneers' Hall, Beryl Road on Tuesday and Wednesday week attracted large attendances.

It was staged again on Friday and Saturday nights.

EXTRACTS from the Barry and District News of February 16, 1978:

A LONG delayed one-way traffic scheme affecting streets adjacent to the lower part of Barry's Holton Road and part of High Street is expected to come into operation within two weeks.

The plan, mooted more than 18 months ago, should have been working from October 1976.

Barry Town Football Club will meet every requirement asked for by the fire authority before it opens newly-planned club extensions to the public, the vice-chairman of the club told the Barry Licensing Committee on Tuesday week.

WORK is likely to start next month on a £100,000 day centre for the elderly, which is being provided by the Round Table on a site at Maes-y-Cwn Street.

ONE OF Barry's oldest hotels, which has been a cause for complaint because of its dilapidated state, is to be re-built as a smaller, modern unit.

On Tuesday week the Barry Licensing Committee granted approval of plans by Barry architect, Mr David Gay, on behalf of the Brains Brewery, to update the Marine Hotel.
