A BARRY-born writer has penned a book that is creating waves in the world of state-of-the-art wireless technology.

Dean Anthony Gratton, 34, grew up in Montgomery Road.

He went to High Street Primary and Barry Boys before graduating from Cardiff University.

His work on Bluetooth technology is already making history by being the first wireless technology book to focus exclusively on the Bluetooth Profiles.

The book, Bluetooth Profiles: The Definitive Guide is published by New York based publishers Prentice Hall and is the only publication of its kind dedicated to promoting a greater awareness and knowledge of the profiles that surround this exciting technology's specification.

Bluetooth wireless technology revolutionises the personal connectivity market by providing freedom from wired connections, enabling links between mobile computers, mobile phones and portable handheld devices to the Internet.

Dean, whose work on the technology has been US patented said: "The profiles are the building blocks of Bluetooth.

Achieving a comprehensive understanding of 'what they are' and 'what they do' is crucial for all wireless technology development and yet something that, until now, has been very much overlooked by writers."

He set up his own technology consultancy in 1998 with Sarah-Jayne Camden, whom he married in October 2000.

They split their time between UK and Europe, but Dean still has close links with the town, especially his 'Gran Joyce', who he dedicated the book to.

His work has already been critically acclaimed by reviewers.

Andrew Allentuck of Globe Technology describes it as "essential reading for Bluetooth developers", whilst Amazon have positioned it as their most popular Bluetooth selection on both their .com and .co.uk websites.

The book marks the beginning in what will no doubt be a long list of publications on the subject but, for now, Bluetooth Profiles:

The Definitive Guide stands alone as the only fully comprehensive reference to cover this important area of wireless communications.
