IN less than a week, local walkers will be taking part in the annual Light up the Night sponsored walk to raise funds for the Marie Curie Hospice in Penarth.

This popular event takes place on Friday, September 12, in Dyffryn Gardens at twilight.

Walkers will be able to follow a candlelit route through the woodlands and ornamental gardens at Dyffryn, whilst enjoying the atmosphere and remembering a loved one.

There will be entertainment along the two mile walk including the popular Bow Street Strummers and a magician.

Taking part in the walk will be Vale Assembly Member and Barry resident Jane Hutt, who took part in last year's walk.

“I am supporting Light up the Night 2008 in memory of my sister, Caroline Howells," said Jane Hutt.

"I join the walk every year as the Vale of Glamorgan Assembly Member, in our wonderful Dyffryn Gardens where the beauty, peace and tranquility is tremendous.

"There is a lovely atmosphere at the walk which we treasure and it is in aid of such a good cause.”

The Marie Curie Hospice, Penarth costs £3.6million a year to run and 70 per cent of this is raised through voluntary donations including events.

The 30 bedded unit offers high quality nursing care for the terminally ill completely free of charge.

It costs £10 for adults and £5 for children to register or you can take advantage of the new family ticket for two adults and two children at £25.
