A special event took place in Barry recently to remember the life of a beloved former secretary.

The Alexandra Gardens Community Association honoured the life and contribution of John Mudford, former secretary for the Community Association, at the Margaret Alexander Community Centre.

Born in 1937, Mr. Mudford dedicated many years to serving as secretary of the Community Association's hall committee, including a number of years after its 2013 rebuild.

Friends and family gathered at the event where a plaque, alongside a photograph, was dedicated to his memory on the reception wall.

The plaque was unveiled by Barry town mayor, Cllr Ian Johnson, who said: "It was a great honour to be at this celebration of John’s life and his contribution to the Alexandra Gardens Community Association over many years."

Cllr Johnson had previously worked with Mr. Mudford and admired his dedication to the community and noted how he would challenge him on how the councillor would help the community around Alexandra Gardens.

The memorial event would have taken place earlier if not for the covid restrictions in place during Mr. Mudford's passing in 2020.
