ST DAVID'S Day celebration plans have been announced in Barry for 2024.

Barry Town Council will be holding its St David’s Day, appropriately, on Friday, March 1, on King Square.

The event will take place from 2pm until 8pm.

St David’s Day is celebrated nationally with Eisteddfods, music, competitions, parades and local events to remember Saint David, March 1 being marked as the day of his death in 589 AD.

The Barry St David’s Day event will feature a stage with live music on from 2pm, market stalls selling Welsh themed products, the crowning of the “what does being Welsh mean to you” competition winners, activities, workshops, street entertainment and more.

The stage will feature acts such as Ysgol Sant Baruc, Barry Community Choir, Nia Tyler, Dagrau Tan and more, performing from 2pm through to 8pm. Competition winners will be crowned on stage with the Mayor of Barry presenting the prizes and certificates also.

After 4pm, baby dragons and their handlers will wander around King Square allowing you to meet and pet Wales’ favourite mystical animal!

The event is free to attend and will feature some free activities and low-cost workshops, including free face painting provided by Barry Town Council.

You can shop the Welsh traders, grab some delicious food and dance to local acts until the sun goes down!

Leader of Barry Town Council, Cllr Bronwen Brooks was pleased with the "low-cost event".

“I am delighted that Barry Town Council are hosting St David’s Day this year, with a fantastic, low cost event on King Square," said Cllr Brooks.

"We will always endeavour to promote a vibrant culture here in Barry and I look forward to seeing you there.”
